You know it was coming. In celebration of Halloween, I present to you, a fanfiction dedicated to our favorite crazy murderer, BB =D

To be a candidate for one of the world’s greatest detectives was a very honorable thing. Many people would die to just get recognized.
But Beyond Birthday thought differently. Candidate? What a joke, more like clone. This entire orphanage seemed more like a cloning facility.
No…a clone is just an imitation. A copy to the original. It can never be like the original, it can never perceive every detail. This is what Beyond Birthday was…a copy.
A copy to the original? He can see how that turned out. It was L’s fault. It was L’s fault that A died. It was L’s fault that Beyond Birthday was reduced to just “Backup”.
From the day he had arrived at The Wammy House, he was recognized as nothing more then a mere clone. Backup…..oh how he hated that name. They just had to choose that name for him, that wretched name. Even Beyond Birthday was a better name then that, and it was even more odd. But it didn’t matter, his parents are no longer alive for him to argue about it.
Something hit him in the head. An idea? A thought? No, it was reality. To be more specific, a ball. His thoughts dispersed, much to his disappointment. What was this ball doing here anyway…?
Oh yea…he was outside. When did he come out here? Had he been so deep in thought he didn’t know where he was walking to?
“Hey! Are you going to throw it back here or not?”
He looked at child in front of him, then at the ball. He has legs of own, he could get it himself.
But no, Beyond made this harder on the other child. He reared his foot back, then brought it forward with strong force. And there it went, spiraling through the air before meeting contact with the earth much farther away then the two were at now.
“What the hell was that for! Bastard…”
Like a dog, he went to go fetch it, and there Beyond was, smirking victoriously. Suddenly, Roger walked out, bringing down Beyond’s moment of joy.
“B, my office. Now.”
Beyond groaned, not willing to sit through yet another lecture…
After what it seemed like years of verbal torture, Beyond left Roger’s office, and surely he will snap if he ever heard B and L in the same sentence.
___________________
It was dark out, not really a disappointment for Beyond as the only thing that made up his day was studying. Fortunately for Beyond, that lecture might be the greatest piece of luck that has ever happened to him…
Or just one of the most unluckiest things that had ever happened to him…
Certainly the latter.
Beyond noticed one light was open down the hallway, leading to the rec room. Now who would be in the rec room at this time of night? Curiosity go the best of him, and he walked to the rec room to figure out who the little insomniac was. There, he saw a man, sitting in a strange position on a chair, reading from a stack of papers in front of him.
Instantly he knew who this was, and instantly an evil grin appeared on his face. He walked toward the man, his eyes immediately staring at the letters and numbers above the other man’s head.
“Hello…L…I didn’t know you’d be visiting today.”
L glanced over to Beyond for a second, before returning to his papers.
“Oh? I’ve been here for a while. You were at Roger’s office for the time, so there was no way of you knowing.”
Smartass.
Beyond knew L was just rubbing that in his face, and oh did it anger him greatly.
But he just faked a smile.
“Ah…I see. That’s a lot of papers..”
“Yes, I’ve been quite busy with a case lately…”
There was an awkward silence, apart from the shuffling of papers.
Beyond went to the point.
“You know it’s your fault.”
“Hm?” L said, uninterested.
“Your fault that A died…”
“My fault?”
“Your fault.”
L was silent, still reading his papers.
Beyond gritted his teeth, and slapped the papers off L’s hands, which scattered around.
L was bit surprised at Beyond’s sudden tantrum, but remained calm.
“Do you even care? Do you even care that you caused A to die? I’m pretty damn sure he’d have a much better life if he wasn’t brought here. He didn’t have to be a detective like you, and I’m sure if he’d known it’d cause death, he wouldn’t of come here.”
L remained silent again.
More silence…
Then L decided to speak.
“It is unfortunate that A has died, and I am sorry for it. But what’s done is done, you cannot forsee death.”
Wrong.
Incorrect.
False.
Beyond smiled at that, no, he laughed. Laughed a wicked laugh.
“You don’t realize how wrong you are there. You can very well forsee death, L Lawliet”
L’s eye’s grew wide with shock.
What? Did Beyond Birthday say such words? How could he have known? It couldn't be possible that Watari....no, Watari would never tell anyone without L's permission...
“November 5...2004. Remember that date L. Remember it well.”
Before L can respond, Beyond had already left.
L decided not to chase after him, he had other things to tend to. And with that, he began picking up the fallen papers

There was nothing more soothing then jam. Many thought Beyond was odd, since he ate right from the jar. Jam without bread? Jam with anything? Is that even food?
Well to Beyond, it was, and he could care less of what anyone thinks.
Beyond found himself standing in front of the bathroom mirror again, staring at his reflection. Maybe it will show up sometime? Maybe it’s just the mirror’s fault?
No that can’t be right. He looked at everything that reflected back clearly. All had the same results, nothing. He stared at his reflection again…
And stared….
And stared…..
And stared…….
With a yell of frustration, he tossed the jar of jam at the mirror.
Why? Why can’t he see it? Why can’t he see the day that he too will die? Why can’t he even see his name? What if Beyond Birthday wasn’t even his real name?
But it had to be…it was the perfect name for him. The perfect name that suited his ability.
It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair that he can’t see his death. It wasn’t fair that he was born with these eyes. It wasn’t fair that he was cursed with this horrible power.
Blood…on the floor? He traced the blood up to his arm, and realized a piece of glass was stuck there. Was this the day he’ll die?
No…that’s silly. It was only a small wound, and the blood can easily be stopped. He grabbed the glass piece, and tossed it away for some unlucky fellow to step on it. He couldn’t help but scoop up the blood, and taste it. It was far from jam, not sweet at all, and yet…he liked it. He licked more and more of the metallic substance, until he felt more relaxed.
B is for blood…
He chuckled at his own joke. It was certainly better then Backup.
He quickly washed up, and left the bathroom, not bothering to fix the broken glass. Everyone will know he did it anyway.
He knew he should be studying now…he had an exam coming up. But he wasn’t. He won’t even bother with anymore studies. There was no point.
For a lively day…it sure was dark out…
Again he felt something hit him in the head.
“Oh no, not you again…”
Does this kid enjoy hitting people in the head?
Beyond picked up the ball, and smirked. Was he going to kick it away again? No….he had a much better idea.
“Hey…kid…come here.” Beyond motioned for the kid to follow, then walked inside, the kid following.
Copy? Backup?
Not anymore. Beyond will be L….he will make L the fool here.
L, the most famous detective in the world. The one who can solve any case.
Is that so?
Beyond will change that. He will surpass L, mock L.
The boy was founded later, unconscious with two broken arms and a broken leg, and a single wara ningyo pinned to his chest
_____________
L stared at him. Stared at the man in front of him. The cruel smirk he had, like he had won.
L knew it…he knew he was right. The entire time he had been right.
But he lost…he lost to this man, the greatest challenge he has yet met so far, facing against the supernatural.
He had lost to Kira….to Light…..for now…..
And that’s when L remember. Remembered the words Beyond Birthday had said so long ago..
November 5, 2004.
Today.
He was too in shock on how Beyond said his true name, that he never realized the date of which Beyond spoke of…
The bell rang one last time….and then stopped.
