A Tale of Our History
A Compressed Knowledge of Our World and its Existance
A Compressed Knowledge of Our World and its Existance
It has been said, by the Great Wise Ones, that our history shall one day fade from the existance of the Universe, and our own Universe one day, simply as time itself passes and flows throughout itself. In order to retain ourselves and our way, it was ordered to keep direct records of our history, from the beginning to the end, by the Great Wise Ones. It is understood that a culture or civilization without a history is one that loses itself quickly in time. Therefore, we underwent the painstaking task of recording our history through the ages, from start to present, in order to preserve ourselves.
What you see here is a condensed and constricted -to the point- version of our history. As we move forward as a people, we change and develope as all over civilizations have throughout the known Universe. Although we ourselves confine to our root world and our own simple existance here, we must allow ourselves an understanding that we have a purpose and reason, and that our Great Overseer gave us that opportunity. This information has been passed down over the years, just as I will pass it on to the decending lines of our people.

[/center]The Beginning
Throughout time, many civilizations rose and fell in the outside Universe. As far as it could be comprehended on any level, these civilizations sought one thing. That one thing was Understanding. However, with how complex such a thing was, in understanding the Universe, it was a task set to nothing lower than a god. As the Universe settled, only certain civilizations lasted. One such Civilization was that of our creators. We simply know them as The Great Beings, but in our understanding we view them almost as gods themselves. Late into their existance, they began magnificent projects and explored deep into the Universe itself. Embarking from their own home world, they spread deep into the recesses of a thing known as Space, looking for worlds to create "Life".
It is unknown to us if other worlds had been settled, but to ours we understand that it was, othewise we would not exist. Upon arrival, The Great Beings rooted themselves deep into the world's structure, manipulating it to fit their basic needs while they constructed what would become the basis of our civilization. They picked a barren planet, devoid of land and mostly a liquid substance called water. The planet was cristened Wai-whetuao, and so began the creation of our history.
The Great Settlement and Overseer
When The Great Beings arrived, the world was nothing more than a barren landscape devoid of land. Only water marked the surface, aside from the magnificent blue atmosphere that contained the very air around them. So began The Great Settlement, a massive project that began with the terraformation of a singular island in which The Great Beings made a home. However, there was a flaw in the plot due to the lack of any resources on the newly found planet. In order to perform such a magnificent feat, The Great Beings started building a colossal Machine, our Overseer, in order to settle the planet. Over the course of five-thousand years, construction began and proceeded on the machine, limb by limb, piece by piece. Years passed, ages swept by, and The Great Beings slowly but gradually pieced together their masterpiece, modeled after their own forms, until it was complete.
The robot, a word they used to refer to the machine, was large enough to span across the entire diameter of the planet itself. Inside, an almost endless series of complicated devices and systems snaked through it, fueled by a mysterious but powerful universal element called Protodermis. However, the machine lacked life, and its current goal went unrecognized.
In order to give the machine life, The Great Beings created an enriched programming intelligence stored inside of the "brain" of the machine, giving it the ability to learn and comprehend the Universe in ways unimaginable. As the machine, our Overseer, began to learn, it was ordered to created the home island of The Great Beings. Sending the machine beyond the atmosphere, they ordered it to obtain material to terraform the planet's surface.
Another one-hundred years passed before the machine returned. As it arrived, it placed a large body of rock into the oceans of Wai-whetuao, creating a large island that The Great Beings would settle. As they began to seed the planet with life in the form of plants, The Great Beings noticed that their greatest creation, a massive robot capable of learning and creating, clearly showed the wear of time from its long trip. So began repairs, and as the island blossomed, and biomes took shape, our Overseer was refurbished and rebuilt.
In order to keep our Overseer in top condition, The Great Beings created living machines, our own ancestoral bloodline, to maintain the machine from deep inside. As they rebuilt, the insides took new shapes, forming complex cities and factories around the complicated systems that allowed our Overseer to live in order to house our earliest kind. In order to thrive, we evolved with the very energy that ran our Overseer. The life force that allowed us to thrive was forged into mask-like creations called Kanohi, and without said power source, our ancestoral kindred would slowly fall into a state of comatose.
Our Overseer itself began to learn at a phenominal rate, observing the cosmos, eventually communicating with our kind deep inside, sharing this information and helping us grow. In order to protect our Overseer from hostile threats, more living machines were created in new ways to exploit the possibilities of of our evolution. Some of them became like us, and called themselves Matoran. Others became Turaga, or Elders, in order to lead these groups of Matoran and teach them the ways of their Overseer, who had become a god-like entity to them. A select few Toa, or heros, were created; powerful warriors who could harness the power of elements in order to protect in the event of an emergency. A group of beings, called the Makuta, took shape, and created living machines in the form of "animals", which we called Rahi.
These newfound advancements flourished and created a culture deep inside of the machine, calling itself Mata-atua.
The Great Schism
While our ancestors worked away, The Great Beings themselves managed to erect a massive city in the middle of their new home while the world around it evolved into a thriving biome of ecosystems. They had ordered their creation, called Mata-atua, to dive into the cosmos one last time to learn as much as possible, as their time itself had become numbered. Before long, The Great Beings left their new home, leaving behind the legacy they had created; a machine capable of creating and supporting life, as a guardian of Wai-whetuao. As they departed, Mata-atua lifted into the heavens, and began to observe the cosmos and itself in the most deepened manner possible.
Several hundred years passed as our great overseer, Mata-atua, stared into the forever shining cosmos of the universe, and as he did, there was a gradual decline in the interactions our ancestors and him. By this time, our culture had developed into a complex environment, settling in deep inside of the mechanical world that was provided for us, our own bio-mechanical bodies evolving and matching every turn that came our way. For a long time, there was piece. We Matoran did our jobs contently. The protodermis we thrived with began taking shapes of it's own, and the Makuta matched it using their own Antidermis, creating many new creatures and life-forms to thrive along with us. The Makuta themselves formed a cult, a brotherhood uniting them in terms of their own sub-culture. The few Toa at the time also united, creating a court of sorts, following codes reveled to them by the great Mata-atua.
Eventually, there was a silence at all times. Mata-atua had stopped watching over us, it had seemed, and thing grew full of tension and chaos. Several wars broke out within our closed Universe, which went by ignored by outside forces. In the end, the Toa and Brotherhood of Makuta ceased the fighting, and the Makuta were assigned to oversee peace. All was fine for a short time, until the leader of the Brotherhood was overthrown and terminated. A new leader rose, both power hungry and corrupted by the chaos before, and soon began a secret plot to overthrow the body of Mata-atua to control our Universe with its power.
A few years passed before this new leader of the Makuta, named Seithros, unvealed his plan and corrupted his fellow Makuta completely. Hatching their plot, they attacked the brain of Mata-atua, implanting a deadly virus that slowly began to kill the giant. This reawakened Mata-atua, and from his long absence he spoke to all of the people of his internal world, warning them of the danger at hand. Soon enough, the Toa rose to stop the fighting. A team of seven warriors rose up and held back the Makuta, banishing them back to their origins within Mata-atua, sealing them away in a statis for eternity. However, by the end of the battle, it proved to be too late, and the horribly weakened Mata-atua began his decent back to Wai-whetuao.
